Lou Frederick & Laura MacNaughton created Danladi Designs many years ago and work together to design a collection of ethnically inspired stone jewelry using all natural materials & found objects from far corners of the world. Both contemporary and vintage elements are used to create their unique and highly personal designs.
Materials may include African & Baltic amber, trade beads, turquoise, Murano glass, and stones & freshwater pearls of many varieties. Many designs are freeform in nature & one of a kind. Gold & silver accents often complete the design.
Our stone and pearl jewelry is complemented by a collection of sterling silver & gold filled freeform earrings in whimsical designs created to move with the wearer. We recently added select necklaces and bracelets to the gold/silver collection.
We exhibit at a wide range of nationally recognized juried shows, from New England & the New York area (Crafts on Columbus, NYC, the Lincoln Center Crafts Show, The Chatham MA Creative Arts Festival, The Boston Christmas Fest, the Three Rivers Arts Fest in Pittsburgh, PA, the Dayton Art Institute Oktoberfest, & the Columbus OH Winterfair, to New Orleans for the annual Jazz & Heritage Festival. We were pleased to be part of the Nashville Invitational American Artisan Festival for many years, where we were featured on the Nashville Morning television show in 2012. Winter finds us in Florida, exhibiting at shows in Boca Raton, Coconut Grove, and the Sarasota/Naples area.
Our work is also featured in select crafts galleries in the Northeast, including The Finer Things in Bridgeport, CT and the Hoadley Gallery in Lenox, MA.
We make a particular effort to ensure that our designs are as environmentally “clean” as possible, with a minimum of waste of materials in the creation of each piece. We are also scrupulous in ensuring that no endangered materials are ever used in our designs, and we use only natural components.
Largely self taught and drawing on our independent art and lapidary studies, our love of color and the combination of disparate elements inform our work. Our yearly trips to the Tucson Gem show keep the collection fresh with new discoveries.
Incorporating influences & ideas from travel, art, & the visual excitement of both Lou’s childhood home, New Orleans, and New York City, our current home, we strive to create a vibrant & always updated collection of jewelry for the discriminating collector.
